There aren't many bands who can command this size of crowd at this point of of their career (second show ever) but the steady build of their identity, huge amounts of practice and their history as part of South Wales' fantastic but underrated metal scene ensured that these dreaming men will be living out their reality as special prospect on the UK metal scene. Ones to watch is thrown around a lot but you need to watch this band sooner rather than later.

I was even more surprised to discover that this was only their third live show, with their fourth scheduled as an appearance at Bloodstock later this year. Their set of engagingly Atmospheric Melodic Black Metal opened on Burned By The Soul Of The Moon, which won me over to their side within the first half of that track.

Sunday of the festival started with another of the best of the weekend. Given the ungodly task of waking up the festival and with rain falling outside, atmospheric black metal band Ofnus opened up the New Blood stage with thrilling misery. Causing tears to flow, souls to ache, and heads to bang with a brilliant showcase of blackened desolation. It made me very happy to see so many people enjoying them too.

I can see Ofnus aspiring to great and better things in the near future and they definitely deserved to be in support for a band with atmosphere and fortitude like Sunken. A great job all round from these Welshmen.

In the end, Ofnus had accomplished something truly remarkable. They had created not just a concert, but an experience—a journey into the heart of darkness, where beauty and despair danced hand in hand. And as the final notes faded into the night, the echoes of their music lingered in the air, evoking images of the wild Welsh mountains and the untamed spirit that dwells within us all.

What they do particularly well is make it all feel rather accessible. The riffs soar rather than jar, and those who would never dream of donning corpse paint can find something to enjoy.

Ultimately though, Ofnus failed in their stated aim of making us all miserable. They finished to a rousing reception, and there were plenty of smiling faces leaving the Sophie tent at the end of their set. Need to try harder next time, guys!

While the set was a brief encounter the band did everything they could to captivate and charm us with their endearing venomous blackened arts, the luxurious undertone which sat beneath the toxic aural shell was lush, the drums were ritualistic in their beating while the string work from both the thicker and the more delicate camps were entrancing in the dark setting of the Sophie tent. A great success of an opening slot and one which I am keen to relive in the future.

They sound amazing, filling the tent with their atmospheric heaviness coated thickly in blackness. It was one of the highlights of the whole festival for all of us. A genuinely brilliant band who deserve every bit of their success.

Make no mistake about it these lads can mix it right up delivering the goods with a precision that most logistics companies would be envious of.
